Common Cooker Hood Faults

I repair a wide range of common cooker hood problems, from simple faults to more involved electrical, control and heating issues.

Cooker Hood Fault Possible Causes
Cooker hood not extracting properly Blocked grease filters, saturated carbon filters, restricted ducting, tired fan motor, poor installation or airflow obstruction.
No power Blown fuse, faulty socket, damaged power cable, failed control switch, loose wiring or control board fault.
Fan not working Faulty fan motor, failed control switch, capacitor fault, wiring issue, jammed fan blade or control board fault.
Fan running slowly Worn motor, blocked filters, grease build-up, capacitor fault, restricted ducting or poor airflow through the appliance.
Very noisy when running Loose fan blade, worn motor bearings, grease build-up, loose mounting screws, vibration from ducting or damaged fan housing.
Rattling or vibrating Loose fixings, loose ducting, unbalanced fan blade, damaged motor mount, loose filter cover or poor installation.
Lights not working Blown bulb, faulty LED module, failed lamp holder, wiring issue, transformer fault or control switch fault.
Light flickering Loose bulb, failing LED driver, poor connection, faulty switch, damaged lamp holder or internal wiring issue.
Buttons not responding Faulty control switch, damaged push-button assembly, touch control fault, moisture ingress, loose ribbon cable or PCB fault.
Touch controls not working Moisture or grease on control panel, failed touch module, damaged control board, loose connection or power supply fault.
Cooker hood tripping electrics Moisture ingress, motor fault, damaged wiring, failed lamp circuit, mains filter fault or internal short circuit.
Burning smell Grease build-up, overheating motor, electrical fault, blocked filters, damaged wiring or failing control component.
Grease dripping from cooker hood Blocked or saturated grease filters, heavy grease build-up inside the hood, poor cleaning, incorrect filter fitment or poor airflow.
Steam or smells not clearing Blocked filters, old carbon filters, weak motor, incorrect recirculation setup, restricted ducting or undersized cooker hood.
Recirculating hood not removing smells Carbon filters need replacing, filters fitted incorrectly, poor airflow, blocked grease filters or worn fan motor.
Ducted hood not venting outside Blocked duct, crushed ducting, failed backdraft flap, poor installation, external grille blockage or fan motor issue.
Speed settings not working Faulty selector switch, failed control board, capacitor fault, wiring issue or motor winding fault.
Cooker hood switches itself off Overheating motor, blocked airflow, faulty thermal protection, control board issue, loose connection or failing switch.
Remote control not working Flat battery, failed receiver board, faulty remote, control board issue or loss of pairing on compatible models.
Error code showing Filter warning, motor fault, control board issue, sensor fault, touch control fault or manufacturer-specific appliance fault.
